Sullivan Breast Center
The Sullivan Breast Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC has emerged as a national model in providing expert care using the most minimally invasive treatments possible. We diagnose and treat more breast cancers than any other medical facility serving the Washington DC and Maryland area. The Sullivan Breast Center offers a rare combination of medically sophisticated breast care and breast cancer treatment, state-of-the-art technology, a warm pleasant environment and a streamlined patient-centered experience.
Nationally Respected Comprehensive Breast Health and Breast Cancer Treatment Center
The Sullivan Breast Center has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breastcare and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. The Sullivan Center achievement of NAPBC accreditation demonstrates a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
The Sullivan Breast Center is the only facility in the Washington DC area to have three accreditations:
- Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology
- NAPBC by the American College of Surgeons
- Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer
- The Commission on Cancer accredited our overall cancer program through 2012 with the "Certificate of Accreditation with Commendation to the Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program."
Only a comprehensive breast health center such as Sibley's organizes multi-disciplinary services into a fully integrated system of care. Breast imaging, breast cancer and breast reconstruction surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, physical therapy and other key teams collaborate closely to ensure the well-being of each patient. Our Nurse Navigator is a Certified Breast Patient Navigator in Breast Imaging and Cancer Care (CBPN-IC), through the National Consortium of Breast Centers. The Nurse Navigator is available to guide patients through what might be an unfamiliar and often anxiety-inducing process.
Sibley attracts breast patients from throughout the nation and internationally. Our reputation generates referrals from the most recognized names in cancer treatment, including the Dana Farber Clinic, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins and Foxchase Cancer Center. With an estimated 178,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed annually in the United States and 40,000 deaths from the disease, referrals are not handed out lightly.
