About Oncology Nurse Practitioners

The oncology nurse practitioner (N.P.) specializes in caring for patients with cancer. All oncology N.P.s are educated at the masters or doctoral level and are qualified to assess, diagnose and prescribe medication and treatment for patients with a cancer diagnosis.

Oncology N.P.s work collaboratively with oncology physicians. They can see patients at the initial visit and often will see patients on their follow up visits. They provide expert symptom management and education related to the patient's cancer diagnosis.

Oncology N.P.s work with the cancer team to provide patients and their families with the best care possible.
