Resident Rotations
To obtain competence and confidence in clinical pharmacy practice, the resident shall complete training in various areas of pharmacy practice. The content or direction of specific training segments will be developed to meet the individual resident’s needs as determined by the resident’s initial assessment plan. Required training segments and the length of time for each segment are as follows:
- In patient operations 5 - 6 weeks
- Acute Care
- Internal Medicine 4 - 6 weeks
- Critical Care 5 - 6 weeks
- Hematology/Oncology 4 weeks
- Ambulatory Care* 4 weeks
- Informatics 4 weeks
- Geriatrics 5 - 6 weeks
- Drug Information 4 weeks
- Practice Management/Quality Management* 4+ weeks
- Electives remaining weeks
Longitudinal Training Experiences
- Drug Information
- Ambulatory Care*
- Practice Management*
- Weekend/holiday coverage
- Research and other projects
*Some rotations are available as either/both longitudinal and/or consecutive
Elective Rotation Options
Elective training segments vary year-to-year. The length of time spent in each elective training segment shall be determined by the Residency Program Director in cooperation with the needs and wishes of the resident.
- Additional practice in any required training segment
- Acute care in a specialty area (e.g. Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry…)
- Ambulatory Care
- Quality Improvement and Management
- Clinical Research/Investigational Drugs
If the resident wishes to pursue practice in an area not listed above as an elective, approval by the Residency Program Director would be required and would be contingent upon preceptor availability.
