Depression as We Age

01/31/13
Depression is not a normal part of aging. Most older adults are satisfied with their lives. But a range of symptoms—often associated with other health issues—may be clues to depression. In this session, led by Halcyone (Halcy) Bohen, Ph.D., you will learn the common tip-offs and causes of depression and what to do when no obvious precipitating factors are apparent. You will also learn that depression is treatable—and that it is important to treat it. In addition to providing more detail on all of the above, this session will provide information on local resources to help you or someone you love treat depression.

Halcyone (Halcy) Bohen, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in D.C. in a private practice that includes psychotherapy with individuals, couples, families and long-term groups. She has served as clinical director of the Family Practice Therapy Center at Dupont Circle, as project director
at the Children’s Defense Fund and on the clinical faculty of the George Washington University Medical School. Dr. Bohen was the first female dean at Princeton University and is also a visual artist who exhibits widely in the Washington area.
