Book Marks: Coffee & Camaraderie

Coming to America…
The Buddha in the Attic, by Julie Otsuka. Stories of Japanese women who came to America in the early 1900s to marry men they had never met. The novel tells the story of a group of young women brought over from Japan to San Francisco as "picture brides" and traces their extraordinary lives, from their arduous journeys by boat to their arrival in San Francisco; from their experiences raising children who would later reject their culture and language to the arrival of war. A novel about identity and loyalty, and what it means to be an American in uncertain times.

The Book Marks - The Sibley Senior Association Book Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month.  1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., in Private Dining Room 3 (just off the cafeteria). All are welcome. Bring your ideas for titles you're eager to read. Coffee and cookies will be served!
