Stories of Crime & Public Safety

02/19/13

Joseph Persichini has had a leading role in many of the most notorious and large-scale investigations of our time. Appointed by FBI Director Robert Mueller to be assistant director in charge of the Washington Field Office (WFO), Persichini was an investigator in the Jack Abramoff corruption case, the terrorist anthrax mailings, foreign corrupt-practices cases involving billions of dollars and major counterintelligence investigations. In addition, he was engaged in the monumental challenge of investigating all criminal acts against "United States Persons" committed in the Middle East.
During his tenure, Persichini revitalized the outreach activities of the WFO to include multicultural organizations such as the Arab, Muslim, Sikh Advisory Council. Based on his leadership, he was awarded the 2009 Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund Public Service Award. In 2006, the WFO was awarded the D.C. Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award, and in 2007, the WFO was identified by Washingtonian Magazine as the "Best Place to Work."
Joseph Persichini began his career with the FBI in 1976 and became one of the organization’s top experts on public corruption. Today, as executive director of the Washington, DC Police Foundation, he works with business and civic groups to promote public safety through support of the Metropolitan Police Department.
