Tea at Tudor Place

02/22/14
 Tea at Tudor Place

Located on six acres of elegantly landscaped gardens, this national historic landmark, opened in 1815, was originally the home of landowner and tobacco merchant Thomas Peter and his wife, Martha Parks Custis Peter, a granddaughter of Martha Washington. The residence hosted such political luminaries as General Robert E. Lee, President Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, and David Webster.

As you tour the rooms you’ll learn the intriguing stories of the family and their servants and get to browse the impressive collections of decorative arts and artifacts. You’ll be treated to a traditional Victorian tea with a variety of tea blends along with sandwiches, scones, petite desserts and fresh fruit.  The tea will include a presentation on 19th-century tea customs and manners. A self-guided tour of the gardens will be available after the tea. One recent visitor summed up her Tudor Place experience this way:  "I swear, one could hear skirts rustling on the stairs!"
