Macular Degeneration & First Connection Resource Sharing Group
Macular Degeneration and First Connection Resource Sharing Group
First Connection: For people who are newly diagnosed with macular degeneration (AMD) or other diseases of the retina. Family members and friends are welcome. Meets 30 minutes before the Network
Network Meeting: For those with vision loss caused by eye disorders that affect central vision and other eye concerns.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common eye condition among people age 50 and older. It gradually can destroy the macula, the part of the eye that provides sharp central vision needed for seeing objects clearly. Although AMD can limit one’s vision, it does NOT cause complete
blindness; nevertheless, it can present many unexpected new challenges.
Sibley Senior Association co-sponsors the Macular Degeneration Network, along with the Prevention of Blindness Society (POB) of Metropolitan Washington, to offer opportunities to share the latest research
findings, techniques for low-vision rehabilitation, information about accessible technology, transportation, recreation and fellowship to assist you or someone you know to maximize independence.
