Book Marks: Coffee & Camaraderie
A new look at a controversial first lady…
Mary Todd Lincoln: A Biography, by Jean H. Baker. A revisionist view of the much maligned Mary Todd Lincoln, who is usually portrayed as a shrew of doubtful sanity. Politics, tragedy and poverty denied Mary Todd Lincoln’s family the comfort and identity she craved. Baker’s chapters on Mary’s last years of alleged insanity and loneliness reveal a jealous and proud woman trapped by the conventions of Victorian domesticity.
