Book Marks: Coffee & Camaraderie
April Book: Silent House by Orhan Pamuk
In a gentrified former fishing villae on the Turkish coast Fatma, a widow, waits for the annual visit of her grandchildren: a dissipated historian, his leftist sister and a high schooler drawn to the fast life of the nouveaux riche. The arrival of the son of Fatma's faithful servant, a fervent right-wing nationalist, threatens to draw the family into the political turmoil arising from Turkey's century-long struggle to become modern. The author is a Nobel Prize winner.
