Pain Center - About the Team

 

Dr. Mehul Desai

Sibley's Pain Center is staffed by an experienced team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other professionals dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of pain.


Mehul J. Desai, MD, MPH, Director, Sibley Pain Center

Dr. Desai is board certified in pain medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation. He completed his residency in physical medicine & rehabilitation at Georgetown University Hospital and his fellowship in pain medicine at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with an emphasis on interventional pain procedures.

His clinical interests include neuromodulation (Spinal Cord & Peripheral Stimulation), discogenic and myofascial pain. Dr. Desai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at GWU Hospital.
 



May L. Chin, MDMay L. Chin, MD

Dr. Chin earned her medical degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia and trained in Anesthesiology at the George Washington University Medical Center.  Dr. Chin completed her fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Services at the University of Maryland and in Pediatric Anesthesia at the Children's Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Dr. Chin’s areas of professional interest include regional techniques for acute, chronic and cancer pain; interventional spine techniques; neuromodulation and pharmacological and interventional management of neuropathic pain. Dr. Chin has published in major medical journals and texts and was on the American Medical Association (AMA) advisory board for the development of continuing medical education series on pain management. 


Dr. Heckman

Thomas Heckman

Dr. Heckman is board certified in Pain Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  He completed his residency at Georgetown University Hospital and National Rehabilitation Hospital and his fellowship at Washington Hospital Center with a focus on interventional pain procedures.

His clinical interests include acute chronic neck and low back pain, neuropathic pain and sports-related pain. He has served as co-investigator on musculoskeletal research projects.
