December 2, 2010

Monday, November 8, 2010--Sibley Memorial Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation celebrated their integration on Sibley’s campus.  Addressing members of Sibley’s Board of Trustees, Foundation board, staff, physicians, and volunteers, over 300 people heard remarks from Robert L. Sloan, President & CEO, Sibley Memorial Hospital; Bishop John R. Schol, the United Methodist Church; Edward J. Miller, Jr. Chairman of the Board, Sibley Memorial Hospital; Edward D. Miller, M.D., Dean & CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine; and Ronald R. Peterson, President, The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System. Following the comments, the new logo was unveiled.

"The integration of Sibley Memorial Hospital into the Johns Hopkins Health System is the beginning of a new era for Sibley," Mr. Sloan commented.  "We believe that we will be able to maintain the culture of Sibley, the personalized patient care that is so much appreciated by our patients and their families, and the commitment of our staff—all of which will be strengthened by the academic excellence, research, and the clinical quality of Johns Hopkins Medicine."

Dean Miller explained, "We are committed to preserving the best of this outstanding community and regional assets with helping Sibley expand its mission to patients and importantly to your community. Our mutual values and interests should keep both organizations strong, nimble and better able to care for our communities."

Lastly, in welcoming Sibley to the Johns Hopkins family, Mr. Peterson, talked about the new challenges facing heath care and noted," …united in strength and purpose, I am fully confident that our new family will not only meet those challenges head on, but will emerge even stronger and more relevant to those we serve."

Bishop Schol, a member of Sibley’s Board of Trustees honored the celebration with an invocation.  For more than 100 years, the United Methodist Church and Sibley Hospital were partners for health and healing in the community.
