Sibley Memorial Hospital Achieves Top Performance in Quality and Safety
October 30, 2013
Today, October 30, 2013, The Joint Commission named Sibley Memorial Hospital a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures in their 2013 annual report. Sibley was recognized for accomplishments in pneumonia and surgical care. This is the first time Sibley has received this recognition and is the only top performing DC hospital.
This achievement reflects Sibley’s commitment to ensuring that patients have the greatest chance for positive outcomes. It also signifies the tremendous progress they have made since committing to achieving 96 percent compliance with targeted measures, part of the Johns Hopkins Medicine
broader effort to demonstrate national leadership in patient safety and quality.
Top performing hospitals recognized in the Joint Commission annual report achieved 95 percent compliance with best practice processes of care, known as accountability measures, in one or more areas during the 2012 calendar year. These measures track whether patients receive therapies identified as best practice, such as prompt administration of prophylactic antibiotic within one hour prior to surgical incision.
Two other Johns Hopkins affiliates were recognized by the Joint Commission this year. The Johns Hopkins Hospital
received Top Performer recognition in four areas: heart attack, heart failure, surgical care and pneumonia; and All Children’s Hospital
was acknowledged for children’s asthma care.
