Sibley’s Diabetes Education Program Awarded ADA Recognition

February 10, 2014

Sibley Memorial Hospital has received recognition from The American Diabetes Association (ADA) for a Quality Diabetes Self-Management Education program. The ADA recognized Sibley’s program for its high-quality education that is essential to effective diabetes treatment.

The Association’s Education Recognition Certificate ensures that educational programs meet national standards for diabetes self-management education programs. "The process gives professionals a national standard by which to measure the quality of services they provide", explains Rose Oshinsky, M.S.N., R.N., C.D.E., diabetes educator for Sibley’s Diabetes Program. "Recognition status also assures the consumer that he or she will receive high-quality services."

Recognition status is verified by an official certificate from the ADA and awarded for four years. Programs that achieve recognition have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.

Sibley’s outpatient diabetes program provides individual counseling, successful strategies for bringing blood sugars under control, instruction for blood glucose monitoring and documentation, diet/meal planning and insulin/diabetes medication instruction. Sibley also offers a weekly program for women with gestational diabetes and a diabetes support group.
