Having a Baby
Nothing is more wonderful than knowing you are going to have a baby. But it can also be a little bit overwhelming. That’s why we’re here—to help make the birth of your new baby as worry-free, safe and comfortable as possible. When it comes to labor, delivery and newborn care, we believe that only the best will do. So we provide sophisticated technology, a comforting environment and a staff of experienced and dedicated professionals. Our approach is family-centered—encompassing partners and siblings in a way that reflects the importance of this event for the whole family. Our work goes beyond delivering healthy babies and sending new parents home feeling confident. It includes support and education that extends from the early months of pregnancy on into baby’s first year. Everything we do is designed to help you get ready; give birth safely and comfortably; and make the most of the joys and challenges that lie ahead. Sign Up for Classes The third month of your pregnancy is the time to contact us about childbirth and parenting classes. For first-time parents, we recommend Preparing for Labor & Birth, Baby Care Skills and Preparing to Breastfeed. If this is not your first pregnancy, consider our refresher classes, Comfort In Labor—A One-Night Refresher and Breastfeeding—The Next Time Around. Complete offerings include classes on a variety of childbirth and child care-related topics as well as sibling tours, prenatal exercise and postpartum support. For a complete list of programs, click here or call (202) 537-4076.
Hospital Pre-registration For more information or to request a form, call Sibley’s pre-registration team at (202) 537-4190. If you have questions about costs, please call one of our Financial Counselors at (202) 537-4160. If you do not yet have an Obstetrician, please call (202) 537-4638 and we can recommend one who delivers at Sibley.
Childbirth in Comfortable and Secure Surroundings
Our dedicated nurses work alongside your physician or midwife to help you stay comfortable and to offer expert guidance and support. While most couples spend their entire labor and delivery in a birthing room, Sibley also offers state-of-the-art delivery rooms equipped for Cesarean births or complicated deliveries. A full range of pain relief measures is available, including epidural anesthesia, administered by board-certified anesthesiologists who are available 24-hours a day. While here, your baby will be under the care of a board-certified neonatologist—a pediatrician with advanced training in the care of newborns. Upon your discharge, the neonatologist will provide a written report to your pediatrician. If it is your preference—and your private pediatrician has privileges at Sibley—he or she may attend to your child after birth.
