Dr. Zia is a General Surgeon and the Director of Critical Care for Sibley Hospital.  He is board certified through the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.  In addition to overseeing the care of critically ill patients in Sibley’s Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Zia’s surgical practice includes all general gastro-intestinal surgery, hernia surgery and thyroid surgery.  Many procedures are done with the use of laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques.  In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Zia serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer and the Medical Director for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement.  He was appointed the Chairman of the Patient Safety Committee of Sibley Hospital in 2008.
